U.K. Rapper Yung Filly Pleads Not Guilty to Assault & Misconduct Charges in Australia

Yung Filly is the stage name of British rapper, comedian, and YouTube figure Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos. The 29-year-old musician pleaded not guilty to several assault and sexual misconduct charges during an appearance Tuesday, March 11, in Perth Magistrates' Court about allegations connected to a 2024 incident in a hotel room in Perth.

Yung Filly, whose real name is Ayo Akinola, has faced serious allegations, including three counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, one count of strangulation, and four counts of sexual penetration without consent, prosecutors have said. The accusations relate to an alleged incident involving a woman in her 20s on September 28, 2024.

After Barrientos was arrested in October 2024, authorities applied strict bail conditions: Barrientos was ordered to surrender his passport, not leave Western Australia, check in with local police every day, and not talk about the case in public. He was also ordered to stay at least 500 meters away from two people named by the court. His bail was also on strict conditions: a personal undertaking of 100,000 Australian dollars (about $63,000) and an equal surety.

As the case progresses, Barrientos is scheduled to face the District Court on June 13, the follow-up phase of the legal process. His legal team insists he is innocent, and the next few months will be pivotal in deciding his fate in the courts and his industry.

This is not Yung Filly's first encounter with the Australian authorities. In December 2024, he pleaded guilty to a charge of reckless driving stemming from an incident in November in which he drove at high speeds, resulting in a six-month driving suspension and a $1,000 fine. But these current charges far surpass the severity of his previous offense and could carry long-term ramifications in his work and personal life.

Yung Filly has had a meteoric rise to success. From a foothold as a comedic YouTube personality, he branched out into television, music, and brand partnerships, becoming a ubiquitous name across entertainment. But these more recent allegations are already leaving their mark. Many of his brand deals have been suspended, music releases postponed, and his career in the industry is in limbo.

Now that the court case has reached the next level, fans, industry peers, and the general public will closely follow what happens. As he continues to plead not guilty to the accusations, the fight's results will dictate if Yung Filly's career can be restored or if he will never recover from these allegations. So far, we focus on the Australian court system as this high-profile case plays out.
