Lil Wayne & Tony Hawk Talk Legacy, Love, and the Reboot That's Sparking a New Skater Generation

On a new episode of Young Money Radio with Apple Music, Weezy joined the GOAT of skateboarding to recollect something as reflective as it is legendary: Tony Hawk's Pro Skater video game series.

And it wasn't all digital skateparks and pixelated 900s. This discussed how one video game served as a cultural touchstone for one generation. With a remake of Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 + 4 on the way, Wayne and Hawk recalled the enduring legacy of a series that entertained and inspired.

Check out this article.

"It was more than a game," Wayne said, beaming with the delight only a real fan and a real-life skater can conjure. "It brought skating into the house. It made children seek outside and dare stuff."

A lifelong fan of the series and no stranger to skating, he spoke of bonding over THPS with his sons. "Shout out to my sons," he laughed. "You know I'm a get ahead of y'all on this game already. Y'all know already I'm down for whatever. And they're older now, so we could bet."

That mix of competition and connection? That's the magic of THPS. It wasn't just button-mashing storytelling; it was rebellion, creativity, and community packed into one sky-high trick series. For Tony Hawk, the effects extend far beyond the half-pipe.

"All we were trying to do was make a cool game that conveyed skate culture," Hawk said. "But we didn't expect it to go this far, to actually increase the numbers of skaters out there. Now we have guys in their 20s and 30s saying, 'Dude, that game is the reason I picked up a board."

Now, there's an opportunity again to rid that magic dust on a new generation of console twiddlers, as a THPS 3 + 4 reboot is on the way to a new generation of gamers and possibly skaters.

"It's generational at this point," Lil Wayne said. "We played it as kids, and now our kids are going to grow up with the reboot. That's crazy."

From living rooms to skateparks, THPS didn't just entertain but lit a spark. That spark hasn't vanished, and two icons, Lil Wayne and Tony Hawk, spearhead the conversation. If anything, it's about to flame up yet again.
