USHER Didn't Break Up a Marriage, But He Did Serve Cherries With a Side of Sizzle

USHER isn't here breaking up happy homes but just doing USHER. And that means belting smooth R&B anthems, distributing cherries like sexy party favors, and rendering entire stadiums breathless.

A 45-year-old man allegedly filed for divorce after his wife seduced USHER at a concert at London's O2 Arena. USHER then handed her two cherries while performing his biggest hit, "There Goes My Baby," and gazed into her eyes like they were the only people in the 20,000-seat venue, according to those in the crowd.

Witnesses said the moment felt electric and like a private moment, even if it was public. The woman's husband was not so pleased with the fruity flirtation. Rumor has it that he was hurt because his wife, who he says has never kissed him in public, appeared to be closely engaged with, in his words, a "stranger in the presence of 20,000 people."

The Internet warped that seemingly individual response into a storyline about USHER being some musical homewrecker. He was doing his job a show hundreds, if not more, women and men would have exchanged places in a heartbeat to attend.

Audience interaction has long been built into the USHER experience. Whether he's pulling fans up on stage, giving them out roses or, yes, cherries, this is a dude who you don't go to see perform; you go to see him put on a show that makes it blurry if he's the performer or you the crowd in the best of ways.

This situation says more about a relationship's state than a pop star's power. A two-minute exchange on stage doesn't destroy a marriage, but the cracks already exist. USHER may have burned the house down, but he didn't start the fire.

So before  assigning blame to a Grammy-winning heartthrob for someone else's heartbreak, maybe we stop and ask: was it the cherries or something more profound?

Let's give USHER his flowers and perhaps a few more cherries. Because if your greatest sin is granting one woman the sensation of being the only girl in the world for a few minutes, that sounds like a superpower, not a scandal.
