One of Baton Rouge's most influential rappers, Boosie Badazz, with his take-no-prisoner rap style and the opponent-locked-in focus of a careerist, Book to give fans a much-needed health update, explaining that cent heart tests returned without issues. And though the results were a significant relief, the road there couldn't have been bumpier.
Boosie, 41, has been experiencing chest discomfort since a violent multi-vehicle crash on April 7 in Union City, Georgia. It wasn't his ride, but the BMW in which he was riding took a serious bullet, and Boosie didn't get out of the situation unscathed.
" I can't even f##### breathe… I'm f##### up," he said to fans in a raw moment after the crash. Doctors would later diagnose him with a left atrial enlargement, a condition of the heart's upper chamber. It was a wake-up call significant enough that even Boosie, who turned around and took the stage a few days later in Charlotte, couldn't ignore the red flags any longer.
Now, weeks after the wreck and with test results proving no permanent damage to his heart, Boosie is determined to do things differently. In his new video on Instagram, he said the words many of his fans would have wanted to hear: "Nothing came back. I'm Negative with my heart. God, good man."
That sigh of relief wasn't just for him but was for the thousands of Boosie fans who have seen the rapper push himself nonstop, elevating his hustle above his health on more than one occasion. But this time around, he's choosing to heed the signs.
"I had to chill, bro," he said. I can't keep getting my heart raised like this. I got to rest, man. That's what I got to do. You know, change my diet."
For a man who is built on energy, edge, and emotion, those are fighting words. Not only was Boosie's health scare about chest pain, but it was also about attitude. Though he expressed severe frustration with his post-crash medical care (he bashed the Atlanta hospital where he was treated as "ratchet" and "trifling" on Twitter), he emerged from the experience thinking about recovery, not just performance.
And this could be even the most personal verse for a man who once insisted, "I ain't got no heart damage," with the same fire he reserves for the mic.
But Boosie fans know he's not one to mince words, and his pledge to be more mindful seems sincere. Whether changing his diet, taking it easy on the schedule, or just getting his breath in, Boosie Badazz is now putting himself first.
