When Doja Cat hit the stage at iHeartRadio’s Wango Tango in Huntington Beach, she was a complete showstopper. The hip-hop superstar sizzled in a shiny aqua mini-dress, which she paired with silver fishnets and heels, bringing her signature sass and sparkle to the ceremony. But while her fans went head over heels for the dazzling choker and plunging neckline, the singer was rather busy offscreen managing a slight cosmetic hiccup, and she didn’t hesitate to discuss it.
Following the performance, Doja hopped onto X (nee Twitter) to drop a raw message that snapped many necks. “Don’t clock my contracted implant. It’s all I ask,” she wrote, instead calling attention to a visible challenge connected to a previous breast implant operation. And what exactly is a “contracted implant,” you might ask? It’s a condition in the medical field called capsular contracture. But, it occurs when scar tissue around a breast implant becomes tighter and more complex, resulting in the implant in the breast either moving or appearing distorted and sometimes even becoming painful.
This typically occurs a few years after surgery and unfortunately may lead to more medical work down the road to correct matters.” But instead of shying away, Doja Cat rolled with it, proving again that the rich and famous sometimes have fashion and beauty mishaps, too.
As one of her followers put it, “We were all too dazzled by the show to notice.” And that’s the thing: Doja Cat’s star power outshone any cosmetic blemish. Her performance on the electric court version and her undeniable presence caught the attention of fans, who showed that a bit of imperfection only enhanced her talent and style.
This isn’t the first time Doja has been candid about her cosmetic evolution. Last year, she revealed she had breast reduction surgery and liposuction on her hips and thighs. Her willingness to talk about such personal experiences is refreshing for an industry that so often expects perfection.
In sharing her story, Doja Cat humanizes her public persona. She makes us realize that all the glam and glitz are real people dealing with real things, even if it’s a little hiccup on the road to the perfect cosmetic procedure. And yet, there she is, performing, dazzling, and owning but choices and all.
So the next time you see Doja Cat on stage, remember that her shimmer doesn’t come from sequins or the spotlight but from refusing to apologize for herself at every turn.
