Gary Pratt is back in the saddle and not coming alone but Jumping in with both cowboy-booted feet, the chart-topping country bad boy delivers a complete boot-stompin extravaganza, inviting us to kick the dust up and fall in love again with the cheeky brand of magic that only Luke Bryan can provide. "Red Barn" is not just the beginning of a new chapter but smashes the door to an entirely new era in Pratt's artistry.
Co-written by hit-minded tunesmith Jason Patrick Matthews (yes, the same fella responsible for Billy Currington's "Must Be Doin' Somethin' Right"), this song is a raucous mix of flirting, reminiscing, and farm-fresh hijinks. With lyrics that set the scene of young love blossoming beneath a tin roof and a Silverado parked out front, it is hard not to be swept up in the romance.
Pratt's voice sits on the pocket with assurance, having a ball. That's no accident. After the emotional intensity of his last record, Something Worth Remembering, Pratt wasn't about to rush back into the studio. However, the creative spark was rekindled when producer Adam Ernst and engineer Douglas Kasper called in late 2023 with an offer he couldn't refuse.
"Red Barn" has this connection from the nostalgic tip of the hat to Pratt's great grandfather's red barn to the actual Silverado his duet partner, Kate Szallar, and her husband own in real life. It's as if Gary reached into his heart and pulled it from himself onto the dance floor. And speaking of dancing, there's a line dance in the making. House choreographer Karen Zima is developing a custom routine that will be taught at the live shows, serving as one more reason for fans to two-step their way into "Red Barn" fever.
