In an unexpected and monumental turn of events for the Hip-Hop community and the boxing world, rapper Papoose has changed the beat from verses to speed bags as he becomes the new trainer of his wife and boxing's undisputed queen, Claressa Shields. And if the mitt work is any indication, that "GWOAT" (Greatest Woman of All Time) is coming back with some smoke.
The post showed Pap doing tight pad work and Shields throwing heat, which is a wicked combo. It wasn't just exercise, but it felt like a moment. It was an adrenaline-rush display of trust, rhythm, and love as the Hip-Hop oracle and the undefeated boxing phenom moved in lockstep like they'd been a pair long before the public knew they were.
"GWOAT July 26 she's back at it, women power on high. Get ya tickets now," Papoose captioned the post. And fight hype met relationship goals. "An Unspoken Form Of Beautiful Chaos." This line could apply to their relationship just as readily as it does to their high-energy training session.
Fans have been shipping the two since Shields spilled the beans about their romance during a recent interview with The Breakfast Club. She remembered meeting him for the first time at the Shakur Stevenson fight last summer when sparks immediately ignited.
"We used to fall asleep on the phone the first three, four months that we first got together," Shields said, sketching an image of the intimacy that flourished in the late hours of the night.
Papoose's estranged wife, Remy Ma, made headlines in December when she announced the new couple, and it became the talk of the town. Shields also referred to the buzz that erupted last December when Remy Ma revealed the new couple. "We woke up to chaos," Shields said, "but that had been the case for months." But she also navigates the drama gracefully: "It's not my business to speak on it…We love each other."
And with the clock ticking to July 26, Shields is honed in on retaining her Undisputed Heavyweight World Titles at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit. Her opponent, New Zealand's Lani "The Smiling Assassin, " is an IBF champ on a seven-fight winning streak with plenty of reason to want to ruin the party.
But Shields, coming off her historic victory in February when she became the first female fighter to win undisputed championships in three weight classes, isn't backing down.
And the big night is going to come with plenty of pizazz. Papoose revealed that Rick Ross would accompany Shields to the ring and then dropped a fight-hyping freestyle to punctuate the moment.
What began withholding pads has transformed into holding each other down, and along the way, they've fed us something we don't often get to taste: a real-life remix of love, loyalty, and legacy all set to the beat of boxing gloves and bars.
