Aaron Pierre Might Be the Shake-Up 007 Needs And Idris Elba's Out

Idris Elba as James Bond" has reverberated louder than an Aston Martin in that concrete garage for years. It's been a fangirl's dream, and I mean to be plain about that, but it has seemed inevitable. Idris possessed all this and then some charm, potency, panache, and a capacity to strike fear in an entire room by simply walking into it. He was the People's Bond. Until that is, he finally confirmed.

"I'm not going to be that guy," he said in 2023. And with that, a tiny piece of our shaken-not-stirred hearts broke. The backlash and the pressure  were intense. Idris seemed to realize that no matter how popular it was among the public, it might be less welcome among the establishment.

Aaron Pierre. That's right. If you've watched Rebel Ridge on Netflix, you know this dude's not messing around. He's smooth. He's intense. He's British. He's 31. And the whispers are he's being gently measured as the next face for Bond. That type of "new blood" could give this aging franchise the adrenaline it desperately needs.

Amazon's MGM wants someone younger, less established, someone that they can hold onto for a (let's say) decade-plus journey. And who has the questions down to a tee ? There is Pierre. Not to mention that, let's face it, people of color out-index the traditional TV watcher. Translation: casting Pierre would not only be brave, but it would also be the smart bet.

But Aaron isn't the only one skulking around the MI6 office. Aaron Taylor-Johnson was reportedly screen-tested (maybe even given the offer), Rege-Jean Page still has some Bridgerton glow, and then you get a line of jawbones Henry Cavill, Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Theo James, Paul Mescal, and James Norton. If your name sounds like a boutique whiskey and you are British, you are in the mix.

But Pierre stands for something else, something clean. It was a fundamental reset, a reboot that's more than a coat of paint; it's a shift in approach. It's long overdue. Let's face it: the franchise has some shadows of the Roger Moore years that it still needs to shake.

And Idris? Well, what if I'm stabbing in the dark? He's the villain. Wouldn't that be delicious? A full-circle moment. The Bond fans enjoy their Elba moment but with a twist. And perhaps that's the sort of role he wants now: strongman, unchecked, with no 007 baggage.

Oh, and Pierre is rumored to be dating Teyana Taylor, in case you wondered if the man wasn't already living a Bond-like life. Whoever winds up sipping that martini, one thing is pretty straightforward: the future of 007 is wide open. And perhaps it's time for Bond to be slightly different.
