Chris Brown's London Drama, Bottle Attack Trial Set for 2026

In a plot that seems ripped right out of a behind-the-scenes tabloid, Chris Brown ditched the mic for the courtroom podium on Friday (June 20, 2025) as he appeared in Southwark Crown Court in London to answer to some significant charges related to a nightclub incident dating back to the top of 2023.

The 36-year-old singer, who had come straight from the Cardiff stage the night before, entered like any celebrity worth the name would: blue suit, oversized sunglasses, and an entourage. But this time, the focus wasn't on a chart-topping hit but on legal woes looming since an incident in February 2023 at the posh Tape nightclub in London.

Brown is accused of attacking musician-producer Abraham Diaw during a late-night fight over a bottle. Diaw was hit with the bottle and was then allegedly "punched and kicked multiple times," the court said in a statement in a repeat of an incident Brown and his lawyers are flatly denying.

Brown was not the only one caught up in the courtroom drama. Omololu Akinlolu, a co-defendant and rapper who has been Omar's friend for years he's better known in music circles by his name, Hoody Baby, also pleaded not guilty to the same charge of trying to inflict grievous bodily harm.

But that's not the end of it. Brown also faces two further charges: assault occasioning actual bodily harm and possession of an offensive weapon. However, the court granted a delay on those charges, allowing the R&B star until July 11 to enter a formal response.

And although most people would think legal pitfalls could slow an artist down, not Brown, who also took his show on the road literally. He also performed in that city just days after being arrested on May 15 at the Manchester airport, when he landed for the U.K. leg of his "Breezy Bowl" tour. An inveterate showman, he turned to the crowd with a smile and a quip: "Thank you all for coming and cheering me on. And thank you to the jail … It was sweet."

The court has tentatively scheduled the trial to start on Oct. 26, 2026 plenty of time for Brown to keep touring, recording, and undoubtedly squinting from the public eye with equal parts swagger and scrutiny.

Behind the scenes, legal gears have been grinding slowly. Still, for fans, it is that familiar dance of competing forces: Chris Brown, the showman and hit-making machine who releases undeniable music, and Chris Brown, the headline magnet whose transgressions never quite disappear. Whether the courtroom showdown in 2026 will be, another chapter of a potentially turbulent future or the end of it is in question.
