Drake’s Shirtless Selfie Sparks Plastic Surgery Chatter

Over the weekend, the Toronto superstar Drake shared a shirtless selfie on Instagram, flaunting his chiseled abs in a carousel of photos. Its caption sounded vaguely like a cryptic journal entry: “I’m wide awake for the nights that separate the type who get to it til they get it right from the type who just …type.” But fans weren’t that distracted by the philosophy; they were too busy zooming in on his torso.

Not praise, but Drake’s post was trolled with scathing comments that accused him of getting some surgical assistance. Another user snarked, “Boy stop playin! The only time you ran was to the surgeon.” Another chimed in with, “I ordered abs from Temu n forgot to add shoulders n tri lol.” And the clowning went on: “No shoulders, no biceps, deflated chest but super defined abs lmao.”

This isn’t the first time Drake has strapped into the rumors merry-go-round. Plastic surgery rumors have been chasing him for years, most famously during his lyrical rivalry with Kendrick Lamar, as well as with Rick Ross and Pusha T. On his notorious, shaping-wear-tight track “Euphoria,” Kendrick took a scalpel swipe: “Let your core audience stomach that / then tell ‘em how you threw your back out.”

Rick Ross went further, tagging him “BBL Drizzy” and adding critique of nose jobs on “Champagne Moments.” Pusha T began laying the groundwork as far back as 2018 with “The Story of Adidon.”

The “BBL Drizzy” meme has since evolved into a creature of its own, a kind of digital folk tale. Producer Metro Boomin himself even started a #BBLDrizzyBeatGiveaway because, you know, nothing fans the flames of beef like a free beat.

For his part, Drake has maintained the same energy, denial laced with dry humor. In April of 2024, he posted a text from his mom, which joked he would’ve had a deal on the table with a “2 for 1onedeal” if he had gotten plastic surgery, and playfully jabs Rick Ross once more for initially starting the rumor.

Thus, there has been, so far, no official reply to the latest round of online dragging. But if history’s any guide, Drake’s going to keep swatting back at the rumors with sarcasm, not statements. He has made clear he would rather troll back than explain.

Sculpted or not, the internet, needless to say, isn’t showing the president the slightest sign of mercy. And in this era of social media surveillance, a selfie may be worth a thousand likes, but it’s also worth a thousand roast comments.
