Former President Donald Trump weighed in on the mounting internal madness among supporters of his beloved MAGA movement in the wake of the recently unsealed Jeffrey Epstein-related Department of Justice documents. Amid infighting among members of the movement about what to do with the files and criticism of Pam Bondi, the former Florida attorney general, Trump went directly to Truth Social with a blunt message: “We are ONE team, MAGA.”
The controversy erupted after the DOJ unsealed a massive trove of more than 300 gigabytes of files related to Epstein, including thousands of images and videos, saying they’d done so because the investigation into the convicted sex offender had concluded and the financier had killed himself and that there was no special “client list” set to be protected. Despite the wide-ranging conclusions in the report, some conservative commentators and MAGA-aligned voices accused Bondi of dereliction of duty for not embracing conspiracy theories that had circulated following Epstein’s death and around his alleged associates.

Trump immediately sided with Bondi and said her response had been “great” and that his base should avoid turning on one another. “LET PAM BONDI DO HER JOB, SHE IS GREAT!” he wrote, obviously frustrated by the jockeying. He characterized the uproar as a purposeful distraction by his political enemies, attacking figures from the Obama administration to the current Biden team as the masterminds behind what he described as “the Epstein Files” and the notorious “FAKE Hillary Clinton/Christopher Steele Dossier” intended to undercut him.
The latest round of the Epstein drama, as Trump saw it, was a trap laid by enemies, as well as by unwitting “friends” inside MAGA who had walked right into it. “Why didn’t the Radical Left, Fake News Media, the FBI and the DOJ do something about the Fake Dossier, and so much else, not to mention Plagiarism, Espionage and more. If there was ANYTHING a plan could theoretically cause damage to the MAGA Movement, why endorse it?” he asked, underscoring the frustration with the timing and substance of the narrative.
In a further layer to the intrigue, a Wired investigation found that the DOJ’s “raw” surveillance footage from Epstein’s cell was in fact spliced together from multiple clips, setting off alarm bells and fueling conspiracy theories. Although experts said the edits did not necessarily indicate foul play, the revelation heightened the skepticism of an already suspicious MAGA base.
And while the factional rivalry raged on, political opponents were not shy about joining the fray: The progressive lawmaker Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez sneered, “Wow, who would have thought that electing a rapist would have complicated the release of the Epstein files?” Meanwhile, some cited Elon Musk’s cryptic statement that Trump does appear in the files as the real reason why the documents haven’t been completely released.
Throughout it, Trump has remained focused on what he believes matters most of all, the movement’s unity and maintaining its momentum forward. “One year ago, our Country was DEAD, not it is the ‘HOTTEST’ Country in the World,” he declared. “Let’s keep it that way, and not have wasted Time and Energy on this.”
In an era dominated by shouting matches and cultish allegiances, where the right is celebrated or excommunicated based on fealty to Trump, his effort was an effort to douse some of the self-inflicted damage of a controversy that has the potential to split MAGA from within. For now, he wants to unite: Look beyond Epstein’s files, his supporters are being told, and at the big picture: how to keep your movement healthy and moving forward.
