Tyson Beckford Recalls Wild Street Showdown With Diddy's Crew

In a shocking moment of TMI, model and actor Tyson Beckford recently spilled some serious tea about a street brawl he had with none other than Diddy's entourage, which almost turned deadly. It all began with a photo request that went sour.

In an interview on The Breakfast Club, Beckford examined an altercation that played out years ago, before 9/11, outside a tattoo shop in Manhattan. Beckford claims it all went from casual to chaos when stylist Groovy Lew brought a woman over and asked for a photo real quick. Beckford refused, explaining he was in the middle of a conversation and things escalated.

"So he swung on me," Beckford said. "And I got to beating the brakes off that man.

The action was said to have taken place smack on Fifth Avenue, close to the old Bad Boy Records headquarters. Beckford, for one, wasn't left unbruised after running Groovy Lew into a wall; he revealed that he received six stitches in his head from the blow.

"And because I ran him into the wall, then my head also hit the wall, I had six stitches in the top of my head," he reminisced. "So, blood's bleeding down my face.

If you're imagining Lesley Gore letting go of a movie moment, you're close. Beckford added a surreal twist: When a police officer pulled up on a motorcycle, took in the situation … and did nothing.

"He knew damn well what was going on," Beckford said. "But he had a look like he was going to turn in the bike and go home."

However, the true drama unfolded minutes later, when Groovy Lew reportedly returned with backup, including Diddy himself and a retinue of Bad Boy crew members. Beckford found himself surrounded by a small mob, and to add insult to injury, his friend, who had been with him, disappeared. "My homeboy, he dipped on me," he said.

As Beckford erupted in rage and felt cornered, he took a straight-from-the-hardcore-movie handbook move: He opened the trunk of his Land Cruiser parked nearby and wielded a shotgun.

"I said, look, I only have five in here," Beckford said in a police interview. "Puff, you gonna get it first, and big man, you gonna get it first. "Everybody else, you know what, I'm just gonna shower you with it.

Fortunately, the man became convinced nothing would be achieved by any shooting, Beckford told me." Beckford added: "But the fallout from it did hit the office of my agent." Diddy called in to complain and got a mild warning in response. "She said, 'Yo, he's Jamaican. Leave him alone," Beckford laughed.

This wild tale of crossed paths half a world away is a cautionary reminder that tempers can flare quickly, even in the glitzy realms of fashion and hip-hop, and sometimes the most unexpected drama unfolds in the most unlikely places.
