There’s something timeless in a tune you can’t shake, and Zircon Skyeband has the formula welded down pat. With their new recording of “I’m Into Something Good,” the band shows that they’ve still got what it takes to take a classic from 1964 and give it fresh-faced charisma, effervescent energy, and an aesthetic that feels both like an old friend and something entirely brand new.
It was written firstly by the songwriting geniuses Carole King and Gerry Goffin, and it stood up to their own work. When Herman’s Hermits made it famous, they dished a big, generous slab of musical marmalade all across the world. Zircon Skyeband isn’t reinventing the wheel. Instead, they buff it until it gleams even brighter, adding swatches of their own signature magic on top. From the spirited trumpet that can’t be contained to the smoky-smooth crooning that glides along like a skate on ice, there’s nothing about it that calls for anything more than a grin and a sing-along and maybe even a little dancing in your chair.
What makes this version unique is its emotional transparency. Instead of coasting on cachet, Zircon Skyeband gives it heart. The horn melodies shine like beams of sunlight, the guitar riffs radiate with effortless ease, and the vocals emanate warmth as if the band isn’t just performing the song, but living it out in real time.
The song is also released as part of their new EP, “Tell Yo’ Mama Not to Worry,” a five-track offering that’s packed with joy, good feels, and loads of musical magnetism. It’s a project engineered to make you feel lighter from the moment it thuds up against your speakers.
